Using Concrete Wall Forms in Modern Construction

With the recent occurrences of widespread flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes structural integrity has become a high priority for anyone interested in building a new structure. While some contractors still rely on the old standby of wooden studs, a new trend in construction is happening. Many people are realizing that concrete walls provide better stability than the old wooden walls.

But as we all know, it is quite impossible and impractical to pour a flat pad of concrete, lift it up, and then use it as a structural support. That is where concrete wall forms come into play. What is a concrete wall form? A concrete wall form is usually described as complex of long, flat pieces of lightweight metal that are joined together to form a mold into which concrete is poured, thus creating a concrete wall.

There are many types of concrete wall forms to consider when using them for construction. Some forms are ideal for building upon a block wall and are specially constructed for doing so. Other forms, known as double braced forms, are more appropriate for extended use and heavy abuse. There are also forms that consider aesthetic appearance in addition to structural integrity. These forms leave impressions in the concrete that may resemble bricks or stones of different sizes and types.

While each concrete wall form we have previously considered has been temporary, or removable, there are some that are intended to be left in place and attached to the concrete. These forms, by remaining adjacent to the poured concrete wall, create an even stronger structure upon which to build. These often are more appealing to the eye than the removable forms, but can be painted or covered with any number of things, from drywall to paint, to paneling. It’s also possible to cover these with brick or a façade brick, a thin, wafer brick that merely appears to be a solid brick wall.
