What Comprises a
Concrete Mold?
A concrete mold can be
made of a variety of different materials. Which one you decide
to use depends on a couple of factors. They include the size of
your job, the area that you will be working with, and the type
of look you are going for.
A latex concrete mold is a one component
material that is ready to use the second that it comes out of
the container. This is the main advantage of a latex mold.
There is little to no preparation needed, which means that you
can spend more time on the actual design. One of the
disadvantages of a latex mold is that they often shrink in
size. Making a mold with latex can also be a very time
consuming. Latex takes a long time to dry; meaning that in most
circumstances you cannot do the concrete work the same day you
make the mold.
A mold made out of polysulfide rubber is a
two component material that has been one of the industry
favorites for many years. One major advantage of using this
material is that it is long lasting. Polysulfide rubber is also
very stretchable which makes forming your mold very easy. A
disadvantage of working with a polysulfide rubber is the
offensive odor that it puts out. You will need to become a
master of holding your breath if you use this material to make
your next concrete mold!
A mold can be made out of many different
materials. The two listed above are the most popular. For more
information on how to make a concrete mold you can visit your
